OTTAWA, February 17, 2021 – Research Canada: An Alliance for Health Discovery is pleased to welcome ten new Members into its Alliance dedicated to advancing health research and health innovation in Canada: Banting Research Foundation, Canada FASD Research Network (CanFASD), Canadian Medical Hall of Fame, Canadian Nuclear Laboratories, Cancer Research Society, Gilead Sciences Inc., Canadian Glycomics Network (GlycoNet), MedicAlert Foundation Canada, Neighbourhood Pharmacy Association of Canada and University of Regina.
“Our influence as an organization is rooted in the diversity of our membership,” says Dr. Rosie Goldstein, Chair of Research Canada and Professor of Medicine at McGill University. “We are delighted to be furthering Research Canada’s advocacy efforts through the unique and diverse perspectives of these extraordinary organizations,” says Deborah Gordon-El-Bihbety, President and CEO of Research Canada.
Research Canada engages all sectors – including government – to build support for health research and innovation. The addition of these new Members into the Alliance strengthens the organization’s ability to represent the interests of the health innovation ecosystem as a whole.

The Canada FASD Research Network (CanFASD) is a collaborative network of stakeholders working to address the complexities of Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD). They work to improve FASD intervention, prevention, and diagnostic efforts by bringing together the viewpoints of people with lived experience, professionals, policy makers, and researchers in Canada.
The Canadian Medical Hall of Fame (CMHF) celebrates Canadian heroes whose work advances health in Canada and the world, fostering future generations of health professionals through the delivery of local and national youth education programs and awards. Founded in 1945, the Cancer Research Society is one of the only Canadian organizations exclusively dedicated to research into all types of cancer. Since its inception, the Society has supported thousands of researchers who have made significant advances in cancer prevention, screening and treatment. Thanks to the generosity of partners and donors throughout Canada, the Society has distributed over $326 million in research grants since its creation. In 2020, 70 new research grants valued at $8.8 million were awarded, despite the pandemic having affected fundraising efforts.

As a registered charity, MedicAlert’s goal is to ensure every Canadian can benefit from high-quality health information in a time of need. Since 1961, MedicAlert’s charitable and outreach programs have helped protect over 1 million Canadians and given them the freedom to live their lives more securely and confidently.
The Neighbourhood Pharmacy Association of Canada (Neighbourhood Pharmacies) advocates for pharmacy’s role in delivering accessible, high-quality healthcare. Together with their members, they provide solutions through research and advocacy. Neighbourhood Pharmacies’ members serve as frontline healthcare hubs, stepping up and creating capacity in public health and primary care. They engage governments and stakeholders to advance community-based patient care.
With ten faculties and 25 academic departments and schools, the University of Regina is home to more than 400 active researchers, including faculty members, graduate and undergraduate students, post-doctoral fellows, and nine Canada Research Chairs. Ten institutional-level research centres and institutes and numerous faculty-operated centres support research collaboration and partnerships focused on our research strengths.
