Dr. Robert McMaster received a Bachelor and Master of Science from the University of British Columbia (UBC), followed by a PhD from the University of Oxford. His research interests are in the areas of molecular immunology, transplant immunology, and parasitology. He is actively involved with national and international granting agencies, including the World Health Organization; the Canadian Institutes of Health Research, as a Member on the National Advisory Committee for Strategies on Patient Oriented Research; and the Michael Smith Foundation for Health Research, as a former Chair of the Research Advisory Council.
Dr. McMaster is a Professor in the Department of Medical Genetics and served as Head of the Department from 2000 to 2010. He also held the positions of Director of the Immunity and Infection Research Centre at the Vancouver Coastal Health Research Institute (VCHRI) and Director of Transplant Immunology at BC Transplant. He was appointed Vice President of Research at Vancouver Coastal Health, Executive Director at VCHRI and Associate Dean of Research, Faculty of Medicine at the University of British Columbia in 2010. Dr. McMaster held the position of Chair of the Board for BC Clinical Research Infrastructure Network (BCCRIN) from 2013 to 2016. He is a member of the Health Research Council of BC, a member of the Board of Directors of the Transplant Research Foundation of BC, a member of the Board of Medical Device Development Centre and a member of the Board of Directors for HealthCareCAN. He Chair of the Board for Research Canada from 2017 to 2020.
