Dr. Denis Roy received his medical degree and his MBA from the University of Ottawa and completed his training in Internal Medicine and Nephrology at McGill University. He subsequently completed a four-year Medical Research Council fellowship in renal physiology at McGill and Stanford Universities. Upon his return to McGill University first as an assistant, then as a tenured associate professor in Medicine and Physiology, he concentrated most of his research on the function of the deep nephron. He became Chief of Nephrology and Medical Director in Gatineau and subsequently Medical Director at the Royal Victoria Hospital and the McGill University Health Centre in Montreal. He became Chief Executive Director at the Centre hospitalier de l’Université de Montréal (CHUM) and President and Chief Executive Officer at Health Sciences North (HSN), in Sudbury, where he established the HSN Research Institute devoted to research in cancer, geriatrics, infectious diseases and Northern and Indigenous Health. For Dr. Roy, research is patient care.
