Patricia Brubaker
Dr. Brubaker is a Professor in the Departments of Physiology and Medicine at the University of Toronto. She has been actively involved in research since 1982, investigating the secretion and biological activities of the intestinal glucagon-like peptides, GLP-1 and GLP-2, hormones that are currently used to treat patients with type 2 diabetes and intestinal insufficiency, respectively. She has received several awards for this research, including the Canadian Diabetes Association Young Scientist Award (1998) and a Tier 1 Canada Research Chair in Vascular and Metabolic Biology (2001 – 2007; and 2008 – 2014). She has published over 160 papers in high quality peer-reviewed journals and books to date, and is currently Associate Editor for the journal Endocrinology. During her career, Dr. Brubaker has trained 11 post-doctoral fellows, 38 graduate students and 119 undergraduate students. She has also won numerous numerous awards for her teaching, including the Faculty of Medicine’s Aikins Award for Excellence in Course Development (1995); Award for Excellence in Arts & Science Undergraduate Teaching (2006); Award for Excellence in Graduate Student Mentorship (2009) and Award for Linking Undergraduate Teaching with Research (2012).
