OTTAWA, March 6, 2024 – Research Canada: An Alliance for Health Discovery is pleased to welcome eight new Members from across the health research and innovation ecosystem: the Black Studies Research Institute, Breast Cancer Canada, the Canadian Society for Exercise Physiology (CSEP), the Chronic Pain Network, Cystic Fibrosis Canada, Novartis, Seneca Polytechnic, and the STEM Fellowship.
“Each of our new Members adds a unique perspective to our Alliance that furthers our ability to represent the shared interests of the health research and innovation ecosystem. We are delighted to welcome them and collaborate with them as we work to advance health research and innovation in Canada,” says Dr. Tarik Möröy, Chair of Research Canada and Director of the Hematopoiesis and Cancer Research Unit at the Montréal Clinical Research Institute.

Research Canada advocates for the prioritization of health research and health innovation in the government to improve the health of Canadians. These new Members provide a breadth of knowledge and expertise across many stages of the research continuum.
The Black Studies Research Institute supports interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary research and scholarship within and through all disciplines, specifically highlighting sciences, technologies, engineering, mathematics and medicine (STEMM). This is the first institute of its kind in the Atlantic region and the first Black Studies research institute to focus on science, technology, engineering, mathematics, and medicine (STEMM) in Canada.
Breast Cancer Canada is a national registered charity dedicated to raising money for incredible breast cancer research. The projects they fund ensure the rapid movement of research findings to tangible outcomes for patients. The teams they leverage across Canada accelerate the transition from standard approaches for breast cancer treatment to the new age of personalized medicine.
The Canadian Society for Exercise Physiology (CSEP) is a national voluntary organization composed of professionals interested and involved in the scientific study of exercise physiology, exercise biochemistry, fitness, and health.
The Chronic Pain Network is one of five chronic disease networks funded by the Canadian Institutes of Health Research’s Strategy for Patient-Oriented Research (SPOR). It was officially launched in 2016 as a pan-Canadian collaboration aimed at directing new research in chronic pain, training researchers and clinicians, and translating findings into knowledge and policy.
Cystic Fibrosis Canada is a national not-for-profit corporation and one of the world’s top three charitable organizations committed to improving and lengthening the lives of people living with cystic fibrosis (CF). In their 60-year history, they have advanced cystic fibrosis research and care that has more than doubled life expectancy for Canadians living with cystic fibrosis.

STEM Fellowship is a registered Canadian charity that provides mentorship and experiential learning opportunities in STEM for high school, undergraduate, and graduate students. The STEM Fellowship has delivered programs to thousands of youth across Canada and beyond, with the support of a range of local and national partners.
