Dr. Kristin Baetz is an award-winning fundamental biomedical scientist, specializing in functional and chemical genomics, and was a full professor for the Department of Biochemistry, Microbiology and Immunology the Assistant Dean of Research and Special Projects (2019-2021) at the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Ottawa. She was a Canada Research Chair Tier II, from 2005 to 2010, and received an Early Research Award from the Province of Ontario. Dr. Baetz is also the former director of the Ottawa Institute of Systems Biology (OISB), a multi-faculty Research Centre with a mandate to develop and apply systems biology to studies relevant to human diseases. From 2012 to 2019, Dr. Baetz served on the Board of the Canadian Society of Molecular Biosciences (CSMB), a professional association of biochemists, cell biologists and geneticists that advocates for fundamental research. She also took on the role of President at the CSMB from 2015 to 2017. Dr. Baetz served on the Ontario Research Fund Advisory Board from 2017 to 2018 and has extensive knowledge of Canada’s research funding ecosystem. She is a passionate advocate for Canadian health research with proven experience in and talent for advocacy. Dr. Baetz connects Research Canada to several noteworthy institutions and people in health research.
