The MacDonald/Franklin Operational Stress Injury (OSI) Research Centre is a military health research centre affiliated with both Lawson Health Research and St. Joseph’s Health Care London’s OSI Clinic, and is committed to improving the mental health status of Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) members and veterans. Staffed by a team of researchers and led by Scientific Director and psychiatrist Dr. J. Don Richardson, who leverages over 20 years of experience working with military members as a clinician-scientist, the Centre’s objective is to catalyze academic research and innovation to advance clinical care and client outcomes.

Research at the Centre focuses on three priorities: improving treatment outcomes, understanding suicide risk behaviour, and uncovering the neurobiology of posttraumatic stress disorder. Researchers at the Centre are currently involved in array of multi-disciplinary projects, ranging from using state-of-the-art neuroimaging and computational techniques to in-depth qualitative interviews to discover complex patterns in data and better capture the patient-centric experience of their mental well-being.

The Centre also actively engages with other military health researchers from across Canada and internationally on collaborative initiatives to further accelerate mental health research and facilitate knowledge translation, ensuring that CAF members and veterans benefit from the most current innovations in military health research.
