Dr. Christopher Mushquash is the Canada Research Chair in Indigenous Mental Health and Addiction, and the recipient of the 2018 Canadian Psychological Association’s Clinical Section Scientist-Practitioner Early Career Award. As the Director of Lakehead University’s Centre for Rural and Northern Health Research, his work focuses on determining evidence-based approaches that align with First Nations values, understanding culture-based approaches to healing and wellness, and ensuring that these approaches are appropriate for the context. Working in close collaboration with Indigenous communities, Dr. Mushquash is bringing together the best of both academic literature and culture-based approaches to address gaps in the availability, accessibility, and appropriateness of mental health services in place for youth living in remote First Nations communities.
