Thomas G. Purdie, PhD, Princess Margaret Cancer Centre, University Health Network and University of Toronto
Dr. Tom Purdie is a Medical Physicist at the University of Toronto and the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre at the UHN with a research focus on applying artificial intelligence to improve patient access to high-quality and effective radiation treatments. With the technology developed by Dr. Purdie’s team, radiation treatment plans, which are typically generated manually in several hours to days, can now be ready for review in minutes. The technology generates highly-personalized plans best suited for each patient by learning from hundreds to thousands of high-quality plans previously used for treatment. The technology promotes translating clinical expertise to allow any patient to have access to the best radiation treatments and the research has been commercialized to make the technology available to patients around the world.
