Celebrating the 2020 Canada Gairdner Awards Reception
In light of recent developments regarding COVID-19 and the House of Commons’ decision to adjourn the House until April 20, 2020, please be advised that this event, originally scheduled for March 31, 2020, has been postponed. Research Canada takes the health and well-being of our guests very seriously and we are therefore taking the advice of the Honorable Patty Hajdu, Minister of Health and the Government of Canada to avoid large gatherings and travel and to practice social distancing. In doing so, we join Canada’s elected officials and many of our Members, Supporters and Partners who have implemented similar policies to mitigate the spread of COVID-19.
While we cannot yet determine a new date for this event, please do be reassured that the event will be held at a later date.
The Canada Gairdner Awards celebrate the world’s best biomedical and global health researchers. The Gairdner Foundation was established in 1957 with the main goal of recognizing and rewarding international excellence in fundamental research that impacts human health. Annually, seven awards are given; five Canada Gairdner International Awards for biomedical research; one John Dirks Canada Gairdner Global Health Award, specifically for impact on global health issues; and one Canada Gairdner Wightman Award, reserved for a Canadian. Three-hundred and eighty-seven awards have been bestowed on laureates from over 35 countries and of those awardees, 92 have gone on to receive Nobel Prizes.
Research Canada is proud to host with The Gairdner Foundation and the Parliamentary Health Research Caucus a reception to celebrate the annoucement of the 2020 Canada Gairdner Award Winners.
